Early Years Parents

Parents and Community

Our links with our Pre-school and reception parents, the whole school and wider community are very important to us.  Of equal importance is our wish to ensure our parents feel not only are they welcome at Salcombe, but they are respected as their child's first teachers. In this way we:

  • encourage and value parent involvement, where possible and practicable;
  • endeavour to create an atmosphere where parents feel able to discuss collegially with teachers, their hopes and aspirations for their children;
  • facilitate the transition to school, focus on the weekly virtues, attend special Lower School and whole School assemblies; and
  • become involved in outreach activities into the wider community through outings and trips.

  Parent Help and the Confidentiality of the Classroom

Parents are welcome to visit or to help as Parent Helpers from time to time. Guideline for this are as follows:

  1. Teachers must be given due respect as the person in charge of learning and teaching in the Early Years classrooms;
  2. Any issues arising from the teaching and learning programmes observed must be addressed, in-house and collegially with the teacher; and
  3. Classroom confidentiality is imperative. This means that what is observed of others' children in their work and play must stay in the classroom. It can be most distressing for other parents to hear via the grapevine that their child has been 'naughty!
