Entry Points

Introduction

Whilst there are four main areas for entry, parents may be invited enrol their child(ren) at any level should a place be available.

Since we work on the first come first served basis wherever possible, and space at Salcombe is at a premium, we advise the earliest Registration to ensure that your child(ren) are placed on the Wait List for the year group of your choice.

Main Entry Points

1. Pre-School: Entry into the Pre-School (our nursery) at 3 - 4 years of age enables little children to prepare for the smoothest of entries into the Reception class where our children traditionally begin to read and write. In the Pre-school's warm and loving environment the children learn pre-literacy and pre-numeracy skills through the mediums of play and exploration.

2. Reception: The second year of Salcombe's Early Years programme for children aged 4-5 years. The Reception class prepares our children for a smooth transition into more formal primary schooling. Reception is often the favoured point of entry for children who have attended our traditional associated nurseries in the Salcombe catchment area. We continue to welcome such entries wherever space permits.

3. Year 1: This is the first year of formal primary school education and, as such, has also become a preferred entry point for parents whose children have remained in Early Years Centres until 6 years of age.

4. Year 3: Whilst, traditionally, there are rarely spaces available, some children may be invited to enter Year 3. At Year 3, the Lower School children transition to the Chase Side site and Salcombe Upper School pupils.
