Frequently Asked Questions

Does every child have the opportunity to attend Salcombe?
Salcombe has an open-admissions policy, and all children are welcome to attend. Receipt of a Registration for Admission application does not guarantee entry to the School and all places are allocated strictly in the order of the application date.

What are your intake years?
Salcombe accepts pupils at all Year levels where places are available. The main intake years however, are at Pre-School, Reception, Years 1, and 3.

How do I register my daughter or son for admission?
To register a prospective pupil for entry into Salcombe, please contact the Registrar and Marketing Manager who will send the Registration for Admission application form and any relevant documentation. The Registration for Admission Form together with the Registration Fee should be forwarded to Admissions, Salcombe Preparatory School, 224-224 Chase Side, London, N4 4PL.

Are places available now?
For the latest information on the availability of places at Salcombe, please contact the Registrar and Marketing Manager at the Admissions Office.

How do your waiting lists work at Salcombe?
A prospective pupil's details are entered on our Wait List once the Registration for Admission to Salcombe Form has been received.

Within the year prior to entry in the Pre-School, Reception, Years 1 and 3 our Registrar and Marketing Manager will contact parents to confirm interest in a place at Salcombe. Positions are then allocated in order of the date of application. If a position is not required in that particular year group the child's name is retained for the next main entry point or available place.

Entrance Tests
Salcombe chooses to run a small assessment with each child. This assessment is not used to pass or fail a prospective pupil but, rather, to gather initial information which will help us to settle your child quickly and seamlessly at entry.

What languages do you offer?
French is taught as part of the Learning Programme from Pre-school (Nursery). It is considered an integral part of the children's education at Salcombe. The emphasis is on vocabulary acquisition through a variety of media and activities as well as an appreciation of another culture. In Years 5 and 6 Salcombe offers educational trips to France, which give the children a wonderful opportunity to practise their French.

What sports do you offer?
Participating in sport helps the children develop teamwork skills, a sense of fair play, as well as an ability to support one another. Sport is an integral part of the curriculum and is enjoyed throughout the school. We have access to excellent neighbouring pitches and facilities for games afternoons and sporting fixtures.

As well as Physical Education, our sports programme includes coaching in: Football, Rugby, Netball, Unihockey, Cricket, Rounders, Athletics and Cross-country.

What music opportunities are available?
Every child is offered the opportunity and encouraged to participate in music at Salcombe.  Children in both the Lower and Upper Schools have the opportunity to participate in performance groups including choirs and orchestras. Individual tuition in a range of instruments is also available at the school. There are many opportunities to perform publicly throughout the year.

Do you have a private bus service?
No, but Salcombe is served by excellent rail links and enjoys a regular bus service running along Chase Side.
