We shall be traveling by coach. Please be at school, having eaten lunch at 1.30 p.m. on the Monday.

LUGGAGE

One bag/ case per child plus one item of hand luggage only. The trip is only five days and there are no fashion parades! Expensive clothing or equipment is not required. Please include a bin liner for dirty washing and label ALL articles of clothing. Do not bring any electronic games or mobile phones. Don’t forget a sleeping bag and a small pillow. Please find overleaf, the PGL suggested kit list. Waterproof clothing is provided and the last item is very much an optimistic one!

TELEPHONE

Children have access to a pay telephone at the site but please do not insist that you are telephoned “regularly” or at set times. Children do not need to spend their spare time in queues for the telephones and they may not be able to at the set time because of activities. In the 14 years the school has been organising these trips, we have only ever had two cases of serious homesickness and in each case there was no problem until a parent rang the centre to speak to the child. Sometimes homesickness is caused by telephone calls rather than alleviated. In cases of emergency, Miss Simmons mobile phone number is 07809 157654 but it will inevitably not be possible to call children to the phone (they could be a long way away and activities are spread over several hundred acres.) We will try to arrange for the children to ring home twice during our stay there. Mobile phones are not allowed. No news is good news!

POCKET MONEY

The children will not be permitted to spend more than £1 per day on sweets etc. in the “tuck shop” until the last night when souvenirs may be purchased. Therefore, large quantities of money are not required, I suggest £20 - £25. Please arrange for the first £5 to be in coins so that it can easily be distributed on a daily basis (we are in the “wilds” and banks for change are a long way away).  Please hand pocket money in a labelled envelope (not a wallet or purse) to Miss Simmons before departure. It will be kept by us in a safe and distributed at shop time on a daily basis.

MEDICATIONS

Except for those which children administer by themselves, please hand all medicines, clearly labelled to Miss Druce before departure. We cannot administer medicines without precise written instructions from you.

Yours sincerely,

Year 3 Parents

Wednesday 5th September 2007

Dear Parents,

Re: Transfer to Junior Department, Chase Side

Following the successful morning that the children spent at Chase Side last term, it has been wonderful to see all the Y3 children at school today. Having spoken to their form teachers and many of the other teachers who now teach them, I am encouraged by what I saw today.

There are one or two other points to mention at this stage. Children registered for Before School Supervision can come to school from 0800 – 0830 and all other children should arrive between 0830 and 0850. Registers are taken at 0850 with lessons commencing at 0900. You should now know the days that your child has P.E. or Sport; this information can be found in the homework diary. At 1600, children being collected are dismissed to the front forecourt where members of staff are on duty each evening to supervise the collection by parents or guardians. Children not collected by 1615 are taken back inside and taken to homework class (in Class 6S – downstairs front right as you look at the building). Normal entrance after 1615 is down the side entrance of the school, nearest the hedge. There is a combination lock on the blue gate; the code to open it is C536X. After homework class ends at 1700, children will normally be supervised in either the dining room or the playground. The Deputy Head, Miss Heywood, Miss Ahmed or I will be on site until 1800 every day.

Most after school clubs commence next week and children are encouraged to attend anything that interests them. As with Green Road, clubs led by external teachers have a cost attached to them but those organised by school staff, do not.

Please remember that all children must have the following equipment brought to school in a pencil case; An HB writing pencil, rubber, sharpener, coloured pencils, ruler, Pritt stick . All items of stationery and clothing must be labeled.

I hope that the children have reported back to you on how happy they are at school but should you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either your child’s class teacher if the concern involves them or me on 020 8441 5356. If you would prefer, I can be contacted via email on floyd.steadman@salcombeprep.co.uk.

Yours sincerely,
