Press-Release
19 November 2010
Salcombe Preparatory School have been supporting Macmillan Cancer Support through the Macmillan Coffee Mornings since 2003. This year the school raised £344.34, bringing the total raised for Macmillan over the past eight years to £3,120.48.
David Penkert, a Director of the Upper School said:
“Originally the idea was to support a worthy organisation. The children at Salcombe felt that cancer was an illness that most of them were affected by, due to someone in their extended family or friendship circle having been diagnosed. Macmillan was the first choice as the children wanted their donations to go to a charity that supports and improves the lives of people affected by cancer.
Later on it became a cause even closer to Salcombe’s hearts when a staff member became ill. Macmillan was there for not only the staff member who had cancer, but also the family and those around. We feel the coffee mornings are an excellent way of coming together as a school family to help a very worthy cause.”
Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for North East London Aoife McDonogh, said: “Macmillan is there to help from the moment someone is diagnosed with cancer and the support we provide is vital. Our doctors and nurses offer specialist medical care and emotional support, while our benefits advisors help cancer patients get the government money they are entitled to. Macmillan will even provide grants to people with cancer who are struggling financially.”
Aoife added: “All the services we offer are essential and we rely on the money raised from events like the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to fund them. It’s absolutely wonderful that Salcombe Preparatory School have supported us year on year and we’d like to express our sincere thanks to the school for their generous and continued support.”
