Salcombe Year 4 pupil leads the way in national Mathematics competition

13 December 2011

Salcombe Preparatory School is proud to announce outstanding results in the recent Four Nations Maths Challenge, which involved over 56,000 pupils across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland between 17th – 18th November.

It is a great honour to have one of our Year Four pupils, Vihangi Rajapakse, chosen as a Student Ambassador for the 2012 World Education Games in recognition of her leading results in the Four Nations Challenge. She came 5th overall out of all participating pupils and 3rd in England: a fantastic result.

Salcombe’s Head of Mathematics, Simona Tudoran, has been extremely impressed with the hard work of all pupils who took part in this competition. She notes that as well as providing an exciting and stimulating curriculum-linked activity for pupils, there has been an average improvement gain of 22% in curriculum activities and 37% in Live Mathletics (Mental Mathematics activities) solely from these two days.

We look forward to hearing about Vihangi’s adventures in the World Education Games, as she will be involved with an expected 5.5 million of her fellow pupils from 200 countries. With the excellent example set by its pupils in the Four Nations Challenge, Salcombe is confident that the Education Games will prove to be just as valuable and exciting to pupils across the world.
