What Is the Importance of 7+?
The 7+ Assessment secures entry into Year 3 and the start of our carefully structured 11+ Pathway, giving pupils four full years of preparation ahead of senior school selection.
From Year 3 onwards, preparation is deliberate and progressive, building:
Strong academic foundations in English and Maths
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning expertise
Exam technique and time management
Confident communication and public speaking skills
Year 3 is a critical entry point for securing long-term 11+ success. Through this structured journey, pupils develop not only the knowledge to succeed, but the confidence to think independently, the curiosity to question deeply and the courage to thrive far beyond their years at Salcombe.
About the 7+ Assessment Day
The assessment is carefully designed to reflect the academic expectations of highly selective grammar, selective state and leading independent school entrance. Our Admissions Team will guide you through the process and provide full details upon enquiry.
While academic ability is important, we look beyond scores alone, considering each child’s academic potential, attitude to learning, curiosity, resilience and readiness to contribute positively to an ambitious cohort.
What Does the Assessment Cover?
The assessment includes an English comprehension paper, short writing task, a Maths paper and a group activity session.
